This is the 2nd largest Park in Uganda and is well known for wildlife tours. Queen Elizabeth national park also has the largest concentration of Hippos along the Kazinga channel in the whole of Africa. The Park is 2056 Kms in terms of size and is located in the Western Uganda and south of the Rwenzori Mountains. It’s surrounded by Congo and 2 great lakes of George and Edward which are both joined by the Kazinga channel.
The Park registers a wide number of mammals such as Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, Leopards, kobs, buffaloes, jackals, spotted hyenas and others like Elands, topis, bushbucks and water backs, warthogs and so on.
There are almost 10 species of Primates found in Queen Elizabeth National Park including the Chimpanzees in Kyambura gorge, vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus, olive baboons and so on.
Bird watching activity in Queen Elizabeth is very famous and continuously done by different tourist groups who visit the Park and this is basically done on the Kazinga Channel, Maramagambo forest and in other areas.
Among the other tourist activities in the Park include: Launch cruise along the Kazinga channel from Mweya. This offers opportunities to see a lot of Hippo schools, crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, bushbucks, warthog and a lot of water birds species.
The Park also offers a variety of game drive along the Kasenyi plains, Crater regions and in Ishasha sector of the Park in the South for the rare tree climbing lions.
